Family in Need!

But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 1 John 3:17

Meet Misty Trammell

Misty's husband, Clint, rolled out of bed earlier than usual that brisk spring morning in 2020 to carpool with his dad to work as he did every morning. No one expected that they would not return to their homes that evening.

In the midst of 2020's COVID isolations, it was easy for the world around this family to carry on isolated from the pain and loss this family had experienced. Misty was left a single mother of 4 small children.

Their home was a labor of love from Clint to his family. He had restored every inch but one last room for their twin boys. It was a fixer upper, but it was theirs. After her husband's untimely and tragic passing, Misty could not emotionally bear to stay in their home. She and her children spent the next year and a half staying with friends and family. The grief had overpowered their family.

When she was ready to come home and rebuild their lives, she returned to a house in disrepair from intruders and thieves. She tried to pull everything back together but became overwhelmed from the violation, grief, and repeated break-ins that terrified her and her little ones. She steadfastly held her ground despite a physical assault and endless destruction to her property.

After the electrical outages from the Ice storm this February, an electrical surge shorted in an ungrounded outlet and extension cord in the room that had sat basically untouched since her husband's passing. Fire fighters were swift in quelling the flames before they spread beyond that little room and the attic.

Her home has become unlivable. Misty and a few faithful friends and family have salvaged. Misty has faced unimaginable loss to her family, her safety, and now her home.

When speaking with Misty, she will tell you, "This is not my house. It looks like it should be in a horror movie. I want my clean house back. I want to be able to go to my kitchen and cook for the kids and Clint."

Misty will never have her life exactly the way it was before Clint's loss, but she can have a safe home. She cannot do it alone. I told her my last visit, that God had placed her in my life for such a season as this to love and serve her and that I know I am not the only one in her community/state/country who is called to do the same.

Why is HopePlace Fordyce Helping?

Misty was one of HopePlace Fordyce's first clients during her pregnancy with their twin boys. It was hard for the staff at HopePlace Fordyce not to fall in love with Misty and her family. Most clients may come in for a short season for pregnancy or parenting resources, but sometimes, we are honored to build lasting relationships where we have to opportunity to walk with clients through longer seasons in their lives.
